HSD311 – Muslim Social and Political Thought

This module aims to trace the development of various social and political trends in Islam in both the classical and contemporary era by looking at selected Islamic thinkers; and critically examine both the theoretical and practical aspects of social and political thought developed in the context of what can be termed as an ‘Islamic intellectual ecosystem.’ The module is beneficial for students who wish to understand the theoretical underpinnings of practical social and political phenomena in Muslim societies, and has critical relevance to any student interested in political or sociological studies and research.
