A Centre of Excellence and the No.1 Choice for Islamic Studies

(In the UK, Europe and Worldwide)

Founded almost a quarter of a century ago in London, The Islamic College has consistently and successfully fulfilled its vision of fostering a high-quality environment for both research and teaching, welcoming academically affiliated and independent researchers alike, who seek to acquire or further develop a solid and in-depth understanding of the diverse field of Islamic Studies.

As a higher education Institute based in the UK, The Islamic College is registered with the Office for Students (OfS) and has applied to obtain independent degree awarding powers. While awaiting the outcome of this application, the College has continued its academic activities along two independent pathways:

Firstly, in collaboration with its previous academic partner from the early days of its establishment until 31 December 2023, namely, Middlesex University (MDX), it has continued to support those students who had enrolled in the College’s programmes validated by MDX. All The Islamic College’s students registered in collaborative programmes with Middlesex University will be supported through to the successful completion of their studies.

Secondly, it has introduced a series of MA equivalent and BA equivalent programmes in Islamic Studies. An Equivalent Academic level is a qualification which is comparable to other formal qualifications in terms of its content and standard, and the knowledge and skills it provides. However, it is not validated by academic institutions that currently possess the degree awarding power.

The Islamic College has succeeded in cultivating a genuinely thriving knowledge community across both its in-house/on-campus and online platforms. This achievement has been made possible through several key initiatives, including:

  • The Publication of scholarly titles in both modern and traditional approaches to Islamic Studies;
  • The Production of a well-established peer-reviewed academic journal;
  • The development of high-quality academic programmes and short courses in Islamic Studies –including philosophy, kalam, exegesis of the Quran, the study of fiqh & usul-al-fiqh, hadith studies, Islam and modernity, Islam and modern politics, methods and perspectives in Islamic studies, Arabic and Persian classes;

Those who join this knowledge community have the opportunity to develop their intellectual and spiritual capacities by mastering the art of applying a critical and rational approach to the study of religion, and the skill of dealing with issues in the human sphere by internalising Islamic sensibilities and sensitivities.

Over the past twenty-seven years, hundreds of enthusiastic students, young and mature alike, from different religious denominations have successfully completed academic programmes at The Islamic College. Many of these happy graduates have confidently continued along professional career paths as businessmen, lawyers, teachers, community leaders and more. Others have opted for academically oriented activities and pursued further postgraduate, doctoral and post-doctoral studies at internationally renowned universities and academic institutions.

According to the records kept at the Alumni Office of The Islamic College, the majority, if not all, of our graduates have distinguished themselves amongst their peers, whether in various fields of business, the arts, or at universities and higher education institutes.

Looking back on nearly three decades of the activities of The Islamic College in the UK, we can proudly affirm that The Islamic College has been a force for good in British society. The positive impact of the dedication and hard work of its staff continues to benefit many academic and professional communities in the UK and around the world.
