HSC325 – Islamic Mysticism

This module examine some of the key concepts which crystallised to form the essential foundations of Islamic mysticism. It will show that, far from being a single, unified stream, Islamic mysticism has been subject to sometimes conflicting interpretations of theologies, cosmologies and sacred texts. This module aims to open up questions and to explore varied perspectives, as well as to encourage awareness of the many complexities related to the inner dimensions of Islam. The module is hence essential for students wishing to familiarize themselves with the richness of the Islamic spiritual tradition.
