ISC116 – Introduction to Islamic Law

This module will survey the general history of the genesis and the development of Islamic law and the formation of different schools of law. It aims to introduce the students to the general principles, foundations and concepts of fiqh and uşūl al-fiqh (Islamic law and jurisprudence) and some major issues in Islamic law. In an introductory subject like this, one cannot hope to do complete justice to the richness and complexity of Islamic law. Rather, the module aims to give candidates a basis from which to explore Islamic law further.
