Qur'anic Arabic Equivalent Certificate - The Islamic College
Designed as a foundation for students wishing to pursue further studies in Islamic disciplines — or simply to gain proficiency in classical Arabic — this programme focuses on the language of the Qur’an and the classical scholarly tradition, rather than the Modern Standard Arabic used in contemporary contexts. No prior knowledge of Arabic is required.
Through systematic study of grammar (naḥw and ṣarf), vocabulary, reading, and comprehension, students develop the core skills needed to access primary sources and engage independently with the classical Islamic heritage.
The complete course is divided into three parts, each comprising 12 sessions held twice per week.
Starting in May:
Part 1 — Reading and Writing & Morphology. An introduction to Arabic script and word patterns, exploring how Arabic words are formed and change.
Starting in September:
Part 2 — Listening and Speaking and Syntax. A focus on correct sentence construction alongside the development of listening and reading skills.
Starting in January:
Part 3 — Qur’anic Recitation & Analytical Grammar. Applied reading of Qur’anic texts with deeper engagement in grammatical analysis.
The Islamic College is registered with the OfS but is neither an awarding body nor validated by another awarding body. Nevertheless, all academic programmes delivered at The Islamic College are fully compatible with the academic programmes in the field of Islamic Studies at the high-ranking international academic institutes and universities. Graduates will be provided with a certificate of completion from the Islamic College for their equivalent academic level of study. An Equivalent academic level is a qualification which is comparable to other formal qualifications in terms of its content and standard, and the knowledge and skills it provides.
Equivalent Programmes are designed to provide all those who are interested in acquiring in-depth knowledge about various branches of Islamic Studies regardless of their previous academic background, with an enhanced and systematic understanding of diverse topics in Islamic Studies such as Islamic Philosophy, Islamic Theology (Kalam), Mysticism, Quranic Studies, Hadith Studies, Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh, and History of Islam.
Course Objectives
This course focuses on the Arabic language which is ideal for anyone interested to learn how to read, write and speak Arabic. The course dives deep into Classical Arabic vocabulary and basic grammar rules. It’s designed to provide a solid foundation of the most common vocabulary and will enable you to go through daily life, navigate a variety of situations, and have significant conversations with speakers of Arabic.
