Visit to the Institute of Ismaili Studies
28 November 2024
On 28 November 2024, students and staff from the Islamic College undertook an educational visit to the Institute of Ismaili Studies (IIS) in London. The visit provided an excellent opportunity for academic exchange and prospective institutional collaboration between the two organizations.
The visit was graciously hosted by the staff of the Institute of Ismaili Studies, who demonstrated exceptional hospitality and cooperation throughout the visit. The programme was thoughtfully designed to provide visitors with a comprehensive understanding of the Institute’s mission, facilities, and scholarly contributions.
The IIS staff conducted a detailed tour of the Institute, beginning with the galleries, which showcase important artefacts and materials related to Ismaili heritage and Islamic civilization. The hosts highlighted the unique architectural features of the building, explaining the design philosophy and cultural significance embedded in the structure. The tour continued with a visit to the Aga Khan Library, where students and staff explored the extensive collections supporting Islamic studies and research. The library houses significant resources related to Shiʿi and Ismaili studies. The group was also introduced to the Institute’s publications department, where they learned about IIS’s scholarly output and contribution to academic literature in Islamic studies.
A seminar session was organised where the Institute introduced its faculty members to the visiting delegation. This provided an opportunity for academic dialogue and fostered understanding of the research areas and expertise available at IIS. The visit concluded with prayers and refreshments, offering an informal setting for further interaction and relationship building between the two institutions.
The Islamic College delegation expresses sincere gratitude to the Institute of Ismaili Studies for their warm welcome and cooperative spirit. The visit was highly beneficial for our students and staff, providing valuable insights into the Institute’s work and facilities. We look forward to continued mutual visits and enhanced cooperation between our institutions in the future, strengthening ties and promoting collaborative opportunities in Islamic studies and education.
