HSD321 – Principles of Qur’anic Exegesis

This module aims to provide an insight into the principles and practices employed by exegetes in their endeavours to understand the true meaning of the Qur’an. It will examine how individual verses of the Qur’an are interpreted; and explores two categories of exegetical principles: principles that are shared between Qur’anic exegesis and other fields of study, and those that are largely exclusive to Qur’anic exegesis.
