A Short Account of the Talk:
Dr Mohamed M Keshavjee will speak on the phenomenon of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), its resonance in Muslim juridical thought, and its reception by Muslims in the UK. The talk highlights some of the challenges as well as opportunities for Muslims in the UK as they make greater use of ADR as a mechanism of dispute resolution in the shadow of the law.
Bio
Dr Mohamed M Keshavjee is a globally recognised specialist on cross cultural mediation. He has obtained legal qualifications from 3 common law jurisdictions (Canada, Kenya and England) and a PhD in Conflict Resolution from The School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.
Dr Keshavjee has authored and co-authored four books, including Islam, Sharia and Alternative Dispute Resolution (2013) and Understanding Sharia: Islamic Law in a Globalised World (2018, co-authored)
He was the first Muslim to be elected to the Steering Committee of the World Mediation Forum. He has trained over 1400 mediators in some 25 countries. Dr Keshavjee was conferred the prestigious Gandhi King Ikeda Peace Award for 2016, for his global work on peace and Human Rights education.
