This programme was developed and is delivered and assessed by The Islamic College.
The MA / PG Dip in Islamic Studies Programme at the Islamic College is aimed at deepening the students’ overall understanding of Islam within historical and modern contexts while providing an opportunity to study the Quran, Hadith and other Islamic texts extensively.
The Programme is structured to benefit students who aspire to continue their studies to a PhD degree and to become future lecturers in the field as well as to those who may seek employment in various fields requiring expertise in Islam.
Alternatively the course would suit those students whose first degree is not in Islamic Studies and are seeking to broaden their understanding of Islam.
Equivalent Programmes are designed to provide all those who are interested in acquiring in-depth knowledge about various branches of Islamic Studies (including Islamic law), regardless of their previous academic background, with an enhanced and systematic understanding of diverse topics in Islamic Studies such as Islamic Philosophy, Islamic Theology (Kalam), Quranic Studies, Hadith Studies, Fiqh and Usul-al-Fiqh, and History of Islam. Students who successfully complete the Islamic College’s equivalent Programmes can apply for higher degrees at other universities.
The course aims to provide:
- An in-depth knowledge of specialist area within Islamic Studies.
- Use of appropriate methodological approach to the study of Islam.
- Sophisticated comprehension of challenging issues in Islamic Studies.
- Critical thinking, analytical and practical skills in constructing well-reasoned arguments.
- Constructive intellectual class interaction on issues related to Islam and Muslim societies.
- Proficiency in conducting research work and independent study.
- Capability to pursue further postgraduate studies.
- Specialised knowledge and skills that could be used in different career pursuits.

All Islamic College Students are encouraged to be active and independent learners and to acquire all the necessary skills through a variety of methods of learning such as lectures, seminars (led by staff and students), presentations, tutorials, private study, individual research, and so forth.
Each module within a course has different assessment weighting.
