The Islamic College Mourns the Passing of a Distinguished Colleague

It is with great sadness that Islamic College announces the death of one of its long-serving colleagues, Professor Sayyid Fadhil Milani, who has been with the College since its earliest days of activities.

During his long period of collaboration with the Islamic College, Ayatollah Milani contributed to many aspects of the academic life of this institution, including teaching various undergraduate and postgraduate modules, such as Islamic Theology (Kalam) and Islamic Philosophy, Authority in Shi‘a Islam, and Primary Sources of Islamic Knowledge. He also served as programme leader for a number of academic programmes at the College. Furthermore, he successfully supervised the BA and MA Dissertations of many students in the course of his long academic career as a Professor at the College, leaving an indelible mark on their academic journeys.

Professor Milani’s impact extended beyond teaching and supervision. He was an active researcher, presented many papers in international conferences, published many titles in Islamic Studies, and served as an academic reviewer for the College’s peer-reviewed Journal of Shi‘a Islamic Studies. Moreover, he was also a great contributor to the extra-curricular activities of the College. In 2021 he represented the Islamic College in the meeting of faith leaders representing the world’s major religions with Pope Francis.

Outside of his activities at the College, he was a pillar of the Muslim community in the UK and served as Imam of the Al-Khoei mosque as well as a trustee member of several Muslim organisations.

Professor Milani is in the prayers of the College’s staff and students. We pray to God to give patience to the members of his immediate family, especially his children, who completed their studies at the College, and also to all his friends, associates and students, in these trying times.
